90 years ago, at Exeter St. David’s station, Sir Allen Lane was inspired to create Penguin Books after he couldn’t find a good book to read.

In July 2025, we celebrated this local literary legacy with a special partnership with Penguin, for a month of Silent Book Clubs featuring Penguin book giveaways, themed treats, and a rousing bookish quiz for first dibs of the free books!

Over 130 eager readers joined us in July for our busiest month of Silent Book Club ever!
